This fascinating, disquieting film by Hernán Belón follows a young couple whose sights are set on escaping city life for the pleasures of a rural getaway with their two-year-old daughter. Soon familial bliss begins to fray as the wife Elisa (a marvellous Dolores Fonzi) becomes hounded by ever increasing but unspecific fears. Their very house, strangers, visitors and animals all seem to conspire to increase her uneasiness which is fast edging toward panic. Estrangement from her husband (Leonardo Sbaraglia) and child naturally follows as tension builds in this gripping psychological mood piece. Belón’s sure hand and Director of Photography Guillermo Nieto‘s eye for the sinister beauty of shadow makes this a stunning and unsettling film experience.
