International guests will attend La Mirada throughout the festival. We invite you to gain an insight into their work at the question and answer sessions, and to meet them personally at our events.
La Mirada has the great pleasure of welcoming back our guest from 2009, one of the most transcendent Spanish actresses of the decade, Verónica Echegui, winner of the 2012 Gaudí Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for this year’s La Mirada-featured Kathmandu Lullaby. Also starring Verónica in this year’s program are the wonderful Half of Oscar and the multi-awarded Six Points About Emma.
Alex García, the protagonist of Six Points About Emma along with Verónica Echegui, will be our guest to present this film. He will also be available for a Q&A session afterwards to share with the audience his insight into his wonderful work in this leading role.
We are also thrilled to present John Mc Inerny, star of the film The Last Elvis. An Argentinean architect, Mc Inerney formed the band Elvis Vive (Elvis Lives) a project that led to their being named the best Elvis tribute band in Latin America by BBC London. He will present his film, participate in a Q&A session with the audience and also perform at the Closing Night party with an all-star band of Australian rock musicians including Tim Rogers and Davey Lane from You Am I and Phil Gionfriddo of The Bowers.
La Mirada invites you to celebrate Mexican culture with a fanfare of food and tequila, lime and tonic cocktails that will give you a zing!
Following the screening of Miss Bala, the film specially chosen by this year’s guest curator Gael Garcia Bernal, La Mirada invites you to a Mexican feast in Cinema Nova´s bar and foyer, with tequila cocktails and traditional Mexican cuisine.
We will be giving away some wrestling Mexican masks on the night.
Music by Sonidero Esperanza, a Neo-Cumbia project by Mose Jemia & Don Bigotes from Mexico City. Mixing classic cumbia, mexican norteno, tropical sounds, electronic beats & techno will make sure to move your booty! Arrrrrriba! Sonidero Esperanza is also part of The Aztec Electronic Music, a community of latin artists putting on the best Fiestas in Melbourne this year.

He will be performing in character as the Vegas-era Presley, backed up by an star-studded live backing band, at our always wild and fun closing night party!
After the screening of Game of Werewolves, La Mirada will host its annual Closing Night party at La Mirada Lounge.
